About
As I Rise is a poetic and intimate visual documentary that celebrates the quiet strength and resilience of Black women from South Dallas. Through fine art photography and personal testimonials, it tells a cinematic story of identity, labor, and transformation. The documentary visual is more than a story—it’s a reclamation. Each portrait, each frame, and each spoken word is a fragment of a larger cultural tapestry, rich with introspection, survival, and generational wisdom. The flower stands as the central metaphor: pushing through concrete, bending toward light—a symbol of beauty born from adversity. Through evocative imagery and deeply personal testimonials, As I Rise celebrates women who have risen not only for themselves, but for their families, their neighborhoods, and future generations. It seeks to dismantle stereotypes, elevate overlooked voices, and expand the cultural narrative of Dallas. This visual experience is both an offering and a call—to reflect, to honor, and to rise.
